Ontario Pork supports the government’s objective of getting 1.5 million homes built over the next 10 years in order to address a housing supply shortage that affects all Ontarians including the farm and agricultural sector. We must, however, stress the importance of government policies and proposals that increase housing supply while also focusing on the Grow Ontario strategy objectives of strengthening the agri-food sector, supporting economic growth, and ensuring an efficient, reliable and responsive food supply for Ontarians, as well as the right to farm under Ontario’s Farming and Food Production Protection Act, 1998.
Ontario Pork supports the proposed PPS2024 allowance of at least two additional residential units (ARU) on farm property. This is in line with government and pork sector goals of addressing succession planning, additional farm family housing, and worker housing needs.
